Virus: After the British navy, the French one.

In the beginning of January, the Royal Navy was reported to suffer from viruses. This time, it's the French navy which suffers from the Conficker [fr] worm, in the Rafale last generation jet fighters. I had a good time mocking the Brits, yet it seems to be a more worldwide problem.

So, question 1: What does an unpatched Windows do in a €60,000,000 jet fighter ?
Question 2: What does a Windows do in it at all ?
